Sonoma Raceway and Interstate Plastics were ready for NASCAR. Interstate Plastics backed local Napa driver James Bickford, who at 16 years young will raced the #6 Sunrise Ford car in the K&N Pro West Series this Saturday afternoon at Sonoma Raceway. James qualified 10th in a stout field of cars on his first road course race at Sonoma. He moved up to 9th and then at lap 5 it jumped out of 3rd gear in turn 11. He fell back to 20th. Worked his way back to 11th while holding it from jumping out of gear. The transmission finally blew up at lap 45. He finished P24 and is now looking to his next race in Post Falls, Idaho.
Bickford and the #6 car, noticeable by the adorned Interstate Plastics logo across the hood, took to the track at 12:30PM on Saturday, June 21st. On Sunday morning, June 22nd, Bickford was available for photos, autographs and to talk about the race. The event aired post-race on Fox Sports and local channels.
“I couldn’t be more excited about this race,” Bickford commented. “Sonoma presents a lot of challenges, but I’m really looking forward to it.” Bickford is the cousin of racing legend Jeff Gordon and is quickly showing his talents run in the family: “[Gordon] helps me a bunch,” Bickford said. “But I kind of do my own thing. I have to do what I have to do to get where I’m at.”
Interstate Plastics couldn’t be more excited as well and is proud to be involved in the K&N Pro West Series and the start of a great racing career for Bickford. We wish James Bickford the best of luck in his early NASCAR career as he carries Jeff Gordon’s personal advice to the track: “You have to first finish if you want to finish first.”
